inspired by the natural flow of wood rings and the simplicity of
Japanese Zen gardens, where every curve and line reflects harmony and balance. The smooth, concave seats mimic the gentle shaping of stones by water over time, symbolizing timeless craftsmanship. The stool’s design draws from the principles of wabi-sabi, celebrating the beauty of natural materials and understated elegance, making them a tribute to both nature and refined artistry.

コンセプト 05

Inspired from the timeless elegance of Ukiyo-e (浮世絵) and Kabuki (歌舞伎), artist Robert N. Moore reimagines it with a popart twist. The bold colors and dynamic expressions are influenced by kabuki theater's dramatic makeup and costumes, while the clean lines and contemporary design reflect the energy of modern pop culture. By blending these two worlds, the pieces honor Japan's rich artistic history while making it accessible and engaging for today’s audience.

    • Location: Entrance hall

Woven with the exquisite Nishijin-ori (西陣織) technique, Eternal Blossoms (永桜) captures the fleeting beauty of sakura, a symbol deeply embedded in Japanese culture. For centuries, cherry blossoms have represented the passage of time, renewal, and the impermanence of life, celebrated through poetry, art, and the tradition of hanami (花見)—the ritual of enjoying blossoms in full bloom. The soft golden glow of this piece mirrors the morning light filtering through sakura petals, evoking a sense of peace and quiet reflection. Like a moment of stillness beneath a blossoming tree, this artwork invites viewers to embrace simplicity, presence, and the beauty of nature’s gentle transformations.

Rooted in tradition and woven with the Nishijin-ori (西陣織) technique, Whispers of the Ancient Pine (古松の囁き) embodies the timeless strength of the Japanese pine. In Japanese culture, pine trees (matsu, 松) symbolize longevity, endurance, and prosperity. Often depicted in classical paintings and Karesansui (枯山水) Zen gardens, the pine remains green throughout the seasons, representing resilience and wisdom through life’s changes. Its deep green branches stretch across a luminous gold background, mirroring the balance between strength and tranquility. Just as the pine bends but does not break, this piece reflects an unwavering spirit—rooted, yet ever reaching toward the future.

Japan has a rich history of using its gold resources for coin minting and decorative arts, including gold leaf. Artisans crafted thin gold sheets, adhering them to Japanese paper or silk, which were then woven into obi sashes using the Nishijin-ori (西陣織) technique, developed over 1,200 years in Kyoto's Nishijin district. These intricate obis featured designs ranging from traditional motifs to grand stories like the “Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō 東海道五十三次”, a series of ukiyo-e (浮世絵) woodblock prints by Utagawa Hiroshige in 1832, depicting the scenic post stations and daily life along the Tōkaidō road connecting Edo (now Tokyo) to Kyoto highlight the cultural and historical significance of this vital artery in Edo-period Japan. The decline of kimono wearing led to the near disappearance of gold obi artistry. To preserve this vanishing art, the artist began collecting and repurposing gold obis as contemporary artworks, hoping to save this endangered craft from extinction.
